Hope I don't get spanked by a mod for not putting this in the Religion forum but...
When I attended Catholic school in the first grade I was taught that every time you side "Jesus" the devil would tumble back down to hell. Whenever I walked alone I would repeat, "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph" and chuckle at the thought of the devil bouncing around in a cavernous underworld.
That also somewhat explained why my Irish grandfather often said that to my grandmother.
