Hi, kids! Today's Tip is excerpts from a larger article. Interesting stuff, so scroll on down and check it out!
THE WORST TIME OF DAY TO EXERCISE
If you just don't seem to be as strong during that midday run or treadmill workout, there's a reason for it. Our lungs lose power at lunchtime.
Our lungs are governed by a cycle of rhythms that dip and rise over a 24-hour period. The time of peak lung performance for most people is late afternoon, making it the best time of day to exercise. But since lung performance tends to drop in the very early morning hours and again at noon, you won't get the optimal benefit from a very early morning or lunchtime workout.
This five-year study . . . focused on the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For most patients, lung function was at its least effective around midday, rising to a peak between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
We often associate the end of the work day with being tired and less motivated for physical exertion; however, lung function seems to be at its best during this time. As a result, exercising or engaging in other physical activities in the late afternoon may help us to achieve optimal performance.
The difference is significant. This study showed there is a 15-20 percent difference in lung performance between noon and late afternoon. The good news is that healthy people have strong lungs, so the change shouldn't be too noticeable.
Thanks Pam! Never heard of this or thought of anything like that. I just spent 10 minutes racing around the kids house. With an inline twin stroller 3 - 1/2 yr old and infant strapped in. My lungs seemed to function well but my legs were tired....
5 years ago I spent my lunch hour on a treadmill. No problems. Then after 5 PM could walk another 10 to 12 miles on one. I miss those days. The most miles I was able to do was about 227 during the Easter break. Now I measure in city blocks and walk late a night and sometime during wee hours of the morning. I never noticed any problems in the middle of the day myself. Maybe because I was in A1 shape. I had trained for months to climb Pikes Peak only for it to come an ice storm the day before Father's day in June. Now I reserve the right to nap at lunch time.

You are too funny my friend . I have also spent many many hours racing around with my grandchildren in their strollers, great exercise. I just never paid attention to what time of day it was. Great tips Pammy, now I'll know the perfect time to relax.
I try to walk in the morning. If I don't do it then....I won't do it at all
