A brewery in Minnesota came up with an ingenious way to deliver beer to the guys in the
ice fishing houses on Lake Waconia - use an unmanned drone to make the deliveries
Great idea, right? Wrong, at least according to the FAA. After a youtube video went viral
showing the test run of the ingenious delivery service, the FAA sent him an email explaining
the commercial use of drones isn’t permitted, “Our concern is the safety of people on the
ground and the safety of people in the air," said the FAA spokesperson.
So as of now, “The FAA issues “certificates of authorization” to public entities, such as . . . federal
agencies, police departments and universities.”

Hmm.. Can you throw in a cheese burger, fries, and onion rings with that beer?..
Interesting concept, but it would be cheaper for those guys to store the beer in the ice, or drive a vehicle, snow-mobile, 4x4, or whatever the conditions require, to get the beer..
I'm not familiar with the air space in that area and how much air traffic they have over there, but there are a lot of general aviation pilots who use their aircraft in remote and uncontrolled areas, and they have skids on the bottom of the aircraft to land on ice, and that's where the FAA can have issues with drones delivering beer.
Yeah sure they drones can’t deliver beer out on the lake for the fishermen but the Game Warden can fly drones overhead to see who’s fishing and where then check to see if they might have a license………….. What’s the country coming to? Not only do you need a fishing license but you need three other forms of ID if you’re out on the lake.
