^I loved paper dolls...probably why I loved their catalog so much!
This Christmas Catalogs were the best.....you could circle toys and ask your parents
to buy them....I probably only wanted a thousand dollars or so worth of toys!
(But usually I would forget about them in a day or two and want something else, lol.)
The Spiegel catalog was still around in the early 90s, as my secretary at the time purchased some Christmas gifts for me through the catalog. I don't recall ever ordering anything from their catalog, but Spiegel had a retail store in an outlet mall about half an hour from my home, and I occasionally went there to shop.

Remember the mall store where everything was in the back and you only saw floor models? Shoppers got a slip of paper at the display and took it to a service counter at the back of the store. It was liek shopping in Russia. Sterlings, it may have been called.
ETA: finally found it mentioned online. It was called Service Merchandise. Putting things in your own cart must be self-service.
Oh, yeah, I used to get their catalog! I didn't even realize they had stopped sending it.
I see they have their history/timeline on the website. I would mostly order fashion from them. And I remember ordering from the "Avon Fashions" catalog, which later changed to "Newport News." I used to love those catalogs. In my teens and early twenties, I would spend most of my allowance and/or paycheck on their clothes. lol The actual Spiegel catalog did look like quality merchandise, but it was a little pricey for me at that time.
Flower and Seed Catalogs are great for the winter time blues...
