- Could have been as simple as trying to verifying your location or name
- Could be someone searching public recent records trying to scam people

They will also do this to verify suspects before an arrest, although this does not sound likely in your case.

I called back the number but it’s an auto voice. What do you guys think happened?
Do you get sales calls on your phone? Maybe it was a scam. Maybe it was a huge coincidence, and someone was about to scam you by impersonating the police.

OR, maybe the cop turned your info in to the station, and someone looked you up somehow, and found your phone number?

I did receive a phone call from police before, it was when I hit a parked car and left my number. The dick car owner then called the police and have the police to contact me. So I was nervous when someone said he’s from police department.

Maybe he wanted to ask you out. LOL Call the number back and say "this number was on my caller ID" and see what happens and report back to us.

And btw--stop looking at your phone in the car, even at a red light. Phone use while driving is as dangerous as drunk driving.
Not true! I read that phone use while driving is 6X more dangerous than drunk driving!

So I take it you never made things right after damaging someone else's vehicle?
