It seems that the world becomes more evil by the minute. I recently read about a man that knocked his one or two year old girl unconcious because she wouldn't go back to bed in the middle of the night and then brought her outside wrapped in a towel and left her to freeze to death. The next morning he reported the child missing and authorities searched for a day or two and found the baby at a park aways away from the home. Tiny footprints showed that she had woken up and wandered around before she died. There are just so many crimes against children and monsters that prey on children. Something needs to be done about pedifiles and the way they are able to get out of jail and hurt more children. I am terrified to even let my son go to school and be around complete strangers...What is going on here? What is wrong with the world?

Personally I feel any rights should be stripped from these types of people, and they should be shot on sight. Why keep feeding them? Just kill them and let God sort them out. Public execution of child abusers and killers...that's what I'd like to see.

I agree. I'm one for the death penalty, and not 10 years after the trial either. My thought is: Get these scum off the planet.
But, many people don't believe in the death penalty and certainly there is legitimate debate on the how the possibility of making a mistake and executing an innocent exists.
So...
I'll go for what Judge Judy said on Larry King last night:
"Lock 'em up and throw away the key".
That works for me.

It doesn't work. A violent criminal such as a murderer, child molester, rapist etc. will never be cured of his nature. We have to face the truth that we've allowed these people to be released and then we are shocked when they commit the behavior again and claim more innocent victims.
That's where the idealistic Baby Boomers with good intentions went wrong.

Well, now we need to do something to change that. There are way too many monsters out there, just lurking around... What can we the people do? Any suggestions...write our congressmen?

I'm pretty sure that no longer works...if it ever has.

I think that poster is referring to the "FEEL GOOD" movement of rehabilitation instead of punishment.

Kinder, gentler, and in many cases, ridiculous.

In this case, the father probably wasn't one of the pedophiles or such that should have been kept in prison for an earlier violation. This is someone who was just plain mean to his child, who was so self centered he cared nothing for her welfare, only what made him comfy or powerful for the moment. And it is rare for a parent to get a life without parole or a death sentence when convicted of killing their own child. But maybe with a homicide/child abuse charge together, he'll never see the light of day again. It is so sad to think there are people who can actually do this, but you're right, our world seems to be getting more evil every day. We can only do our part and teach our children and hope & pray that one by one we can change things.

Remember that the great percentage of children who are abused are abused by relatives and "friends", not strangers on the street.

In other words, you probably need to be more concerned about "creepy uncle Bob" than you do some stranger breaking into your house in the middle of the night.

As far as parents killing their own children....totally bewildering to me.
