Hello everyone, I have a question....I not sure if this is the right forum for this, but next month for the First Time will be hosting my own birthday party. I know I know, I need some tips on being a good host and making sure all of my guests are having a great time. I know some times are common sense, but anything else that could help? I am a little nervous about it.

Here are some details, I booked a room at a bar/lounge that I've recently started going to, the place which I booked is a more grown-up/classier type to atmosphere. There is no cover charge to get in, and there will be a cocktail waitress serving drinks,(not all on my tab of course). I will probably have dinner at maybe Friday's or somewhere beforehand and the party will start around 9 p.m. That's pretty much the details, If anyone can give some helpful advice or some tips please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I know I posted this in the Hobbies board, but that area doesn't have as much traffic as this board does, plus this is a topic dealing with my friends. I do have another question to ask. Would you personally rather meet at a restaraunt for dinner or would you rather buy some food to the party for the guests? I am still deciding on whether I want to do the former or the latter.

Maybe you couldhave something at the bar that could be either a dinner or a substantial snack, like wings and a couple big pots of chili, tortilla chips, cheeseballs and dips and things like that. And cake of course!

If you are inviting people but they have to buy their own drinks, that could get tricky; you have to offer them something besides your sparkling personality to get them to want to come! No offense to your sparkling psersonality(honest!). Maybe you could get a couple kinds of beer on tap and pay for that and let the ones who want mixed drinks buy their own. Could you arrange for designated drivers?

I guess it also depends on what the bar itself will let you do.

Ok, here is the thing.....the room that I rented will have a cocktail watress or two serving the drinks, so people wont have to run in and out of the room to get drinks. I get what you're saying though, that is why I am having dinner beforehand at the restaraunt a few blocks down. The bar which I am having the party is in a major downtown area of a town.

You may not like this answer but if you are hosting a party, you pick up the tab. Anything else is just plain tacky. Have dinner at a restaurant, pay the tab and then anyone who wants to join you at a bar or club afterwards can pay their own way. If you are having the party at a club, you should pick up the tab and provide food.

Otherwise, I would just ask your friends to just get together and go out on a designated date.

A little confused

Are your friends going to be joining you for the dinner before part or you are just going to eat before the party?

Because if all your planning is to have the room and everyone that comes buys their own drinks I don't see where this would be a party, more like a group hanging out in a separate room at the club. Which would reduce your "hosting duties"

We may need more details.

Karla, friends will be joining me for the dinner before we head over to the bar, since it is about two blocks down the street. I will probably provide some snack foods at the room in the bar.
