I just heard that in Britain Druidism, i.e. the polytheistic religion dating back to the old Celts, has officially been given the same legal status as Christianity, Judaism etc.
A speaker for Druidism said his religion is important to an increasing number of Brits who don't feel at home in monotheistic religions anymore, yet feel the need for a spiritual home.
Currently there are around 10k followers of that religion in the UK, with increasing tendency.

Oh really, one of the oldest beliefs? I don't think so. Paganism as it is today, including wicca and druidism, came about because of the celtic revival of the 18th century. They're made-up religions, with no definitive evidence of what their practices and doctrines actually were. Neo-pagans, neo-druids, etc like to claim their religions are ancient, but in truth they're only a couple hundred years or so at best. That said, they're just as valid as any other religion, and probably a lot less harmful than most.

That's true, nobody really knows what exactly the old Druids 2200 years ago thought and did. There is a lot of speculation (even on the possibility of human sacrifice rituals), but most descriptions come from the Romans and are thus biased and probably partly wrong.
I guess the important thing is the signal that sends, i.e. that it is OK again to be an animist, pagan, polytheist etc. without being considered primitive by mainstream monotheistic society.

I agree, if we're talking just about acceptance then that's a great thing. I wish the USA would accept all beliefs and non-beliefs as progressively as much of western Europe does.

From an old M*A*S*H episode:

Hawkeye: Let's make him a Druid.

Radar: What's that?

Hawkeye: They worship trees.

Radar: Ah. Tree surgeon.

Hawkeye: Druid, reformed. They're allowed to pray to bushes.
