So I'm volunteering at my daughters 6th grade field day today. It's going to be in the mid 80's and I want to wear a tank top. Nothing trashy a decent designer tank top that I bought at Kohls. I'm going to be in AZ next week and don't want to get the proverbial farmer's tan by wearing a t-shirt. I'm a guy by the way.

Take a t shirt just in case. You may also want to look into dri-fit or wicking clothing

^^ I wouldn't see it as being a problem, you said it was designer and therefore properly covers, isn't huge or skin tight, etc.
Cudos for caring enough to ask....

But I moved to the St. Louis area about 8 months ago and I was denied service at a bar and grill for having a tank top on. So they seem to be more uptight about it here.

Well, it might depend on the bar. I nice bar in a upscale restaurant/hotel might not dig it but a beach walk up bar wouldn't care.

This was hardly an upscale bar. It was a brew pub walking distance from the riverfront area of the Missouri River.

Are kids allowed to wear tank tops? If I had any doubts I'd probably err on the side of caution and wear a t-shirt instead.

What is the school dress code? If it is allowed under the dress code, it's probably fine.

Um, no IMO. Unless the field trip is at a waterpark.
