I sure hope not!

This time with video:

Conn. police release video of attempted abduction of 11-year-old girl walking to summer camp

and

Man suspected of trying to kidnap 10-year-old turns himself in to Philly police | Fox News

Im really sounding paranoid here, but watch the videos, this proves you can't let them even walk down the street alone anymore.

Oh good grief. Yet another alarmist post.

Tell us how many children you personally, actually have and are raising?

Yes, I also find your posts disturbing.

Parents are the best judges of how to raise their children.

You need a new hobby.

So what? A girl at my school was actually kidnapped and that was back in the eighties. It's no different. Are we supposed to keep our kids in a bubble or teach them how to defend themselves? I choose the latter.

I think it would be fine if you teach your child about safety and if they're not walking alone.
I don't remember walking alone when I was younger than 14...and that was before cell phones.

What is disturbing? The video-yes...
We live 45 min from Philly and the one video has been all over our newstations. It is scary, disturbing, sad,etc...
I don't know what is so disturbing about the OP's comments. I am not sure how she was judging anyone.. She asked a question.

We have to be careful what freedoms we give to our kids these days.
I don't let my 10 yr old walk down the street to her friends's house alone, she has to go up a large hill that blocks me from being able to watch her walk there...
We live in a fairly affluent development and I am sure the chances of anything happening are not high, it gtds. Nothing though.

I don't think posting a bunch of alarmist posts, and insinuating that nothing is safe is particularly helpful parenting topic. Of course some things are risky and parents should consider the risks vs benefits for their children and make decisions accordingly.

Adults get kidnapped, too. Should no one walk anywhere?

You do realize that about less than 1 percent of abductions happen this way? And that usually it's a family member, or a known family friend that does this.

I know I'll get flamed, but, I now live in Utah, in a burb of SLC. It's 'Mayberry' like here. Neighbor moms are out chatting all day, while our kids play. Lol we wave at any vehicles that drive by, most are neighbors. All our kids are all over the place. Lol kids as young as 1 are entrusted to 6 and 7 yo's. Lol not my kids, but, just how our neighborhood is. Kids are playing all over this summer. I like how all the kids feel and the parents are okay then. Fwiw, w/in a block, we have 20 or more 5-10yo boys, and a lot of girls too. Lol my kids are 7 and 8.

Anyone can 2nd guess any action. I am paranoid about aot too. Lol
