They also don't let their daughters wear short skirts, or anything sleeveless. No tank tops or sundresses for these girls.
I just roll my eyes at these types of parents thinking that if their girls show even the tinest bit of skin then they are not being modest. And then to say he doesn't let his daughters wear those clothing items because he loves them? Geez, I never knew that my parents letting me wear tank tops (even one's with spaghetti straps ) meant they didn't love me as much.
And the daughter was 18? 18 is legally an adult, and a little too old to still be told by mom and dad how to dress. I could understand if it was a 13-14 year old who's body was changing, but 18? No.
Totally agree. Like you said, if she was 14, I would agree she is a little young maybe. But 18?
I caught my 17-year-old daughter leaving for school yesterday in little yoga booty shorts. Mean, stifling mother that I am, I made her change. I hope the oppression doesn't crush her spirit.
The standards of modesty each individual family chooses to enforce is up to them. I may not agree with it, but it's none of my business. The family in the OP is LDS, and the modesty standards as described are pretty common.
I think forcing "standards of modesty" is absurd. Talk about choosing the wrong things to focus on... smacks of micromanagement to me.

I am curious what purpose/end goal forcing her serves?

So I don't have to bring her clothes if she gets an infraction at school. They're inconsistent and she doesn't have P.E. shorts this year, which is what they make kids put on if they do crack down. I also don't like yoga pants in general because as they get worn out a person's skin shows through, and school is not the place to walk around with your butt cheeks showing.

But your doing so serves an actual purpose. This guy, not so much.
I don't get how he thinks a 50 year old man wearing short shorts proves that a 19 year old girl shouldn't wear them. You know, if he was really serious about her clothes, he could have just left her at home.
