What age do you allow your kids to wait at the bus stop by themselves? (babysitter, baby)

In where you live right now and if you had kids that were school aged to ride the bus at a stop out of sight of your home, what age would you allow them to walk by themselves to the stop? (and there are no kids by you to walk with them)
ETA: For poll purposes it's the next block over at a corner in your current area that you live in.

age would not be so much THE issue so much as WHERE . is bus stop in heavy traffic? is it safe? is it high visibility? is there a shelter for inclement weather?
4th Grade - Going to stop alone with other @ Bus Stop.
It was rare when he would go to stop for Elem School and there are not others at the stop. For Middle School he was alone @ stop.
But I would take him to school most days, due to his school schedule, I would have to go to work before his bus came, and I literally had to drive past his school to go to work, So It was easier to drop him (Also he had breakfast @ school, and his school would do clubs before school).

For me it would be more a question of are there a good number of other children at the stop? How far is the walk?
There used to be a bus stop across the street from our house (we are now in a walk only zone) and there were like 8 kids that were there daily. If my 9yr old had to walk a couple blocks by themselves and stand with a crowd of other kids then I would be fine with that.
Now if my 11yr old was one of two children at the stop I would be leery because while I wouldn't mind a quick walk by themselves, I wouldn't want them standing around waiting a long time alone.
All of that said we are in a walk zone and most of the kids here ride their bikes alone to school each day or walk in groups without adults starting in first or second grade.
interesting. i remember walking by myself to school when i was in 1st grade. Where I live right now, he'd be out there at age 6.5 (1st grade). Bus stop is next door to me; around the corner.
It would be around 12 for me if there was less than 3 kids at the bus stop who wait with them. If there are kids at the stop, I would let DD walk by herself around 9. Right now shes 8 and I walk her across the street. There are no kids at the stop with her, thoughso I wait with her.

I was walking to school in kindergarten with my older sister and other kids in the neighborhood. My sister was 4 years older than me, so that means I was walking by myself starting 2nd grade. I walked with friends from my street. We'd wait for each other and walk together. Sometimes it was just two kids together, sometimes it was a bigger group, and sometimes we'd walk alone if we were running late or a friend was staying home from school. It was never planned that we SHOULD walk with friends. It was just something kids did naturally. My children did the same thing since their babysitter (their Godmother) lived 5 houses down the street from my childhood home. They went to the same elementary school I did. It is about a quarter mile walk, maybe closer to a half mile.
When I was 13 yrs old I began taking city busses (three of them each way) downtown to high school in a huge city. First bus came at 6:25 AM - in the dead of night. Going to high school was my responsibility and ya know, I learned early on, how to deal with the world. Kiddie time was over with. Among my classmates, we all did it, and with few exceptions, we all became very very successful. Oddly enough, among my classmates, the flops were the kids that started out down there in the 11th grade and beyond.
