Just wondering at what point kids start taking baths and showers without having to be told?
And when mine are told, they drop their shoulders like they were just told their puppy died.
14 or so....it can really depend on the child and when they become 'motivated' by peer pressure and dating.
Showers and baths are a waste of time to most kids...it takes away from what they want to do....they aren't fun or relaxing (as many adults find them to be).
I don't understand why you are mad. Do they not take a shower when you tell them to? Let them be a bit hang-dog...and don't get all bent out or shape if you have to remind them....after all....you are the parent.
We didnt have a bath or shower in our house in the 50s or 60s.. so there wasnt this issue, we had to go to the public baths at the weekend... and only have a wash down during the week ... terrible now to think about it.... my kids were all three bathed together when young to save water, but I got a shower when they were a bit older and they loved it ,as it was a novelty so they used it often and didnt need to be told..
my girls are 11 now and have been taking morning showers during the school week since they were 7 years old. Even though they have their own bathroom they come downstairs to use my master en suite shower cause it has a really wonderful overhead rain shower head.
Weekends are very casual around here and daily showers are not required but sometimes they voluntarily take them.
During the summer they spend a lot of time at the neighborhood pool so taking showers are just part of the after- pool routine.
