21 & 20. A different era than today. All 4 of us were born before they turned 30. Ugh. Personally, I would have had a stash of scotch tucked away in the couch cushions...
My dad was 37 and my mom was 34. 34 was considered pretty old to be having babies at the time (1953) and she always said she was the oldest mom at the PTA meetings.
My mom was 36 when I was born in 1954.
My dad was 45, which led to a funny incident because he was such a joker. He, my stepmom, and I went out to dinner when I was about 24, so dad was almost 70. The drive to the restaurant out in the country was 45 minutes, so when we got there, my stepmom says, "I'm going to use the ladies room, so you two just get a table and I'll join you when I'm done." Off she goes to the rest room.
The hostess comes out of the dining area and says, "Can I help you?" My father puts his arm around me and replies, "Yes, my wife and I would like a table." I wish I had a picture of that poor lady's face. My dad was far from the "silver fox" type and I'm sure she couldn't imagine what this young lady was doing married to him unless he was very rich. A minute later, my stepmom comes to the table, where we're still laughing, and she says, "Uh oh. What did he do this time?" She got a good laugh when we told her his latest prank.
