Father’s Homecoming Picture With Daughter’s Date Goes Viral | WNEP.com

Ick, ick, ick.

Every time I read or hear "Daddy's polishing his shotgun to protect his little girl" it makes me cringe. Newsflash, girls and women don't belong to anyone but themselves.

When my girl starts dating, I think if I hurt the first one or two word will get around - "Yeah, she's really nice but her Daddy is crazy! Did you hear what he did to Jimmy?"

That's just weird. Couples have been doing that pose in dance pictures for decades.

And I agree that the old shotgun-toting daddy threat is overplayed. Dads who really know what they're doing raise girls who can handle themselves.

I took it as a joke too, and the boyfriend looks as though he handled it just fine.

Yes and they teach their daughters the way they should be treated. For others reading, here's a hint: NOT like personal property!

Your opinion.

My reaction was disgust and eye rolling. "Dontchoo come 'round my daughter! You hear me boy?" Get over yourself, Daddy Dearest.

And he will insist on the usual formal wedding: white shotguns.

I can see where this specific incident was probably a joke, and it tripped a memory of the countless other dad/daughter photo memes:

This one is at least a variation on the theme.

This particular photo I took as a joke as well. Dad hardly looks scary or threatening, or even like he's trying to be. I agree that a dad should actually teach his daughter to handle herself, but this dad looks like he's just trying to be funny.

What I find personally creepy is the "promise ring" to daughters from dad, pledging her virginity until marriage. I don't feel her virginity is any of dad's business and the pledge and ring is just crossing the line. It's a young woman's choice if she wants to be a virgin until she's married, not her dad's.
