When my oldest were teenage I would set the alarm at bedtime...even if they wanted to disconnect it, the beeps were so loud and next to my room it would wake me up.
The down side is the one I trusted the most was the youngest of the teens and after the older left, I stopped worrying so much. Then one day the car was parked wrong and there was a bag of McDonalds trash in the house trash. He didn't even have a license. I didn't freak out, I just got smart about taking my keys to bed and arming the alarm.
As someone else said, it's hard to sneak out when your parents don't care where you are, but I just went out when I wanted to, usually to get together with girls or with friends who had weed. I was never a serious troublemaker, just minor stuff.
I wanted to just to see if I would ever get caught. If I ever did though, I couldn't go to front door because all of the bedrooms are together, which means walking past parents room. They hear literally anything - I sometimes make a joke that they would hear if I put on socks in the middle of the night in my bedroom (if I were to take socks out during the day and put them on at night). The only way out is the window, but I couldn't go out the window. My house is alarmed, so the alarm would go off if I opened window while alarm was on because the windows are censored (obviously). Since house is alarmed I obviously cant go out front door, but I'm talking about if house wasn't alarmed - my first thought was front door and since I couldn't do that, then bedroom window.
I thought we never got caught, my friend and I would sneak out and ride our bicycles to the park after dark. Sometimes even taking the short cut on the cemetery road which was especially spooky in the dark. Awhile back when we were visiting with her mom, she told us she'd always follow us in the car when we were out at night. Then she'd race back home before we got there so we'd think we never got caught. She was the best mom on the block.
I never snuck out. My sister did, and yea, she got caught. More than once. My Dad planted a cactus bed underneath her bedroom window and that pretty much put an end to sneak out attempts. There was no way to get out that window without some serious pain. He used orange flower paddle cactus. Pretty wicked stuff, and readily available at no cash outlay. And when it bloomed it was actually pretty.
After Sis went off the college Dad and I ended up ripping it out. It's also very aggressive and fast growing stuff. It was going for world domination. lol
Never. I had nowhere to go after midnight and didn't want to get robbed. Living in a metropolis was not safe after dark.
