The camp my daughter is doing is split into age groups of 7-10 years olds in the morning session and 11-15 year olds in the afternoon session. I don't mind the split as 15 year olds would probably want to over-power the 7 year olds, but I wouldn't have minded if the age cut off at 12 and the 11-12 year olds helped mentor the younger ones.
Last year, when my daughter was 8, I think they gave more of the "fun" work to the older kids... but also, she couldn't really reach the stove very well without a stool. She's taller this year at 9 and has had more experience from allowing her to cook more at home, so hopefully she's one of the older ones helping the 7-8 year olds.
