Is this something parents should do? Should it be illegal?

Dad accused of forcing girl to kill pet cat - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/03/13/cat.stabbing.ap/index.html?imw=Y&iref=mpstoryemail - broken link)

I don't think it is a good idea myself. But rednecks will be rednecks I guess.

Default Sickening!!!!

What a disturbing and horrifying story! I hope the judge throws the book at him. That is extremely psychotic behavior! Those kids will be warped for life. Poor cat too.

I don't even know what to say other than I hope he's never left alone with his children again. And I don't think it has anything to do with being a redneck. It's called being very sick and disturbed in general.

Where we live hunting and harvesting animals is a given and most kids participate. I can't think of any of the people I know who would condone this and I know some real big rednecks!
If this is the whole story it looks to me this "parent" has mental issues of his own and was just passing 'em on down to his kids who should not be in his care for awhile...

Hunting is one thing, but killing the family cat is another thing entirely.
Is it just me who believes that you should never be drunk in front of your kids even if there is another adult there to be in charge of them? I know I never have been.

For me personally, I would be scarred for life by something like that, just witnessing it would be horrendous, nevermind having to do it.

When I was growing up, we raised a sow, knowing well-enough that it would be slaughtered for food. It was a pig, for heavens sake, but it was traumatic enough for us to know that her days were numbered. I can just imagine what this child felt being given the knife to slowly extinguish the life of a creature it cared for and loved! This is one sick man who needs to be put out of his misery!

based on the responses here, I didn't even read the story.

Hunting is different than killing a family pet.

Seems to me, they need to lose the dad and get a new cat.
