So I am sitting at work, nearly chewing on my sleeve I am so hungry, which is strange because I am hardly ever hungry in the morning.
It got me thinking, I haven't been MADE to eat something for breakfast since elementary school, by middle school, I ate in the AM if I felt like eating something.
So my question is:
Do you make your kids eat something in the morning, even if they aren't someone who likes to eat soon after they wake up? If so, how old do you do that until?
*Disclaimer* This is not about me, do not discuss me, my circumstances this morning sparked the question. Thought I would give a little background and my answer to the question.
My answer: AS A CHILD, it was about middle school, around 7th grade where I started to pick and choose mornings that I ate, but always took a snack to school, so that if I was hungry before lunch I had something to tide me over.
I don't know. I'm always hungry in the morning. I hope that feeding my kids breakfast these first years will turn into a habit as they get older. It isn't healthy to skip breakfast.
My eldest doesn't like to eat first thing, and she gets out of bed at the last possible second anyway. I make sure she takes her vitamin and Zyrtec, and I send her out the door with a vanilla soy milk and protein bar.
My younger two have cereal or toast every morning before school.

The vanilla carnation instant breakfast mix and something light like fruit or toast is good. Cereal and milk or greasy sausage and eggs no way.
We were strongly encouraged to eat breakfast every morning as children, but probably around middle school I started bowing out. Food in the morning just turns my stomach. My mother was exactly the same way when she was a child (funny....). But it was hard for her to watch me turn down food, as she also felt it was probably important for me to eat. So we went through phases where she tried hot/cooked breakfast, other options.... but they all were too yucky for me. So she stopped pushing me.

She understood. Because she was like me.
Some people are that way.
I am one of them. I will feel so sick if I eat when I get up.
I also could never eat in the AM before practice, I would throw up.
Options for kids who don't like to eat breakfast:
-Carnation instant breakfast. (I love the vanilla.)
-Fruit like orange slices, peaches, grapes.
-Toast with something like cinnamon sugar, jelly, butter.
All things I was totally fine with eating in the am.
When I have kids if they are anything like me, I'll have to keep note of what worked for me so I can try it.
Well at that age you should make sure he DOES eat, whether you adjust it to where he eats a little after waking up or a hour or whatever.
The kids I used to nanny for were only quiet when they ate so it was nice to feed them in the am and finish getting ready in the kitchen LOL.
Sometime a battle of wills with a 4 year old isn't worth the energy.
