I teach high school. At least five times a year, I will hear a student say that all they have to do is tell their parent that I slapped him/her in the face and I will lose my job. I tell those students that if I do something like that, I deserve to lose my job; however, if they tell a lie that causes me to not only lose my job but to lose my teaching license and even go to jail, that I will sue their parents and haunt their family for generations. That usually stops the threat. I do document that the threat was made to protect me.

Unless you see proof that this happened, I would at least consider the possibility that your child wants to get back at the teacher.

I think you should contact the teacher who did that.

And just do what you feel best... (contact the principal maybe?)

When I saw this, the first 2 things that came into my head were:

1. OP's son wants a new Ipod/Iphone/video game

2. OP's son doesn't like his teacher and wants revenge

I should add that these were the first thoughts I had when I saw the OP's post....not the post I quoted.

Exactly what I thought...I bet if you ask for details, he won't be able to give you any.

What I meant is that in this litgation happy enviroment we live in, a teacher would have to be NUTS (and yes, nuts is possible!) to hit a kid. Not saying it couldn't happen, but most teachers think twice these days before even raising their voices.

You might want to find out if it's true or not. Does you son have a history of embellishing stories to get others in trouble?

What you DON'T hear on the news all the time is just how many of these are false accusations.

Children aren't stupid, they know very well that all they have to do is make a claim like this and parents will get all excited and start the lawsuit.

I knew a kid that told his parents that every time they punished him, he was calling child services and report it as abuse.
