I want to buy a metal play den for my 9 month old; anybody have experience with these, specifically, things that have worked to keep baby from bumping his head? Thanks!!!

What is a metal play den?

Do you mean a pack and play?

Because something like a dog kennel comes to mind when you say metal play den and I am sure that is not what you mean.

In which case (if you mean pack and play), the bars are padded and the size of the playpen is so small a child really does not get much velocity in it to cause serious injury hitting the side.

I think one of my friends had that for their child back in the day. I imagine the child is going to lose balance and end up bumping their head on it eventually.

I have never found the need to use such a thing, instead I always used baby gates and/or furniture if I needed to contain the area where any of my children (or those I provided care for) were to be. All areas were already child proofed so they could be there safely anyway.

So, having said that, what is the reason you are considering using this?

Babies will fall and bump their heads on all kinds of things and get scrapes/bumbs from any number of things you might not expect. Even falling hard on a carpeted floor can bring on a bump or falling on a toy they are playing with. You can certainly try to avoid unnecessary falls, but you can't eliminate them all.

I have seen something similar through (I think) one step ahead, except it was plastic and had activities on the side panels.

oh here it is

One Step Ahead Baby - Li'l Playzone with Lights & Sounds

While the plastic is still hard, its probably not as hard as the metal.

Lots of options........

I know how these things work.
What you do is set up a rocking chair inside the play den and then you sit in the chair and read a book and the kid is on the outside learning about the world.

I guess if he runs at it and bangs into it, then it may cause some damage but then if he's doing that he's probably already damages.

Buy a wooden one.

I need one of those but it also has to be soundproof and locking. Wait, I guess that is what the bathroom is for....

Hypocore, I'm considering do this because I have become a germophobe since having my baby and I would like to keep in on his play mat while he is in the crawling stage - I feel like I just can't keep the carpet and floor clean enough, as we had freerange chickens and a dog who was no doubt tracking all manner of cooties in the house.
