I am planning a trip to a friend's house this summer and am looking for any interesting things to see on my drive to Albrightsville near Allentown Pa. I will be driving on I-80 and am would like any information on attractions, especially natural ones (caves, scenic drives, historical sites, etc) that might be along that route. I don't mind a little side trip off the freeway as necessary as I would love to take in the sights on my trip.

The Elk Scenic Drive shows up on the giveaway state map as a loop off I-80 (through Benezette and Renovo) but summer isn't necessarily the best time actually to see elk. PA 144 between Renovo and Snow Shoe is a lonely road but less lonely now by gas drilling rigs tearing it up, it might be better to continue east on PA 120 and take the short side trip off the side trip to
Pennsylvania State Parks - Hyner View - PA DCNR
Penns Cave (you take a boat through) and Woodward Cave are fairly close to I-80, east of Bellefonte. The best way might be to come down PA 144 from PA 26 at Bellefonte interchange, take it southeast to PA 192, and drive it east through Penns Valley and passing R.B. Winter State Park (a scenic gem) over to the cute small college town of Lewisburg.
Or you could take the highway loop up to Williamsport and see the Woolrich original outlet store and the Little League Museum.
I-80 was cut through the woods along much of the way so there aren't always close parallel roads.

Still looking for a few more ideas as to what to see on my way from Michigan to Albrightsville Pennsylvania. Traveling along the I-80 but have no qualms about a detour for something cool. I am a science teacher so natural attractions are worth the time.

Take a scenic drive up through the Allegheny National Forest. Stop in Cook Forest, have a picnic lunch, go down by the water, climb up the tower.
