East Coast-Denver is approximately a 2000-mile haul, so plan on 4 days/3 overnights (maybe 3/2, if you can share the driving, and if the car is in good shape). Have your regular mechanic check thigs out first, but understand that some parts (fan belts, for example) still fail without warning. Once you get there, remember that the eastern half of Colorado is essentially just an extension of Kansas and Nebraska, and that some of the most spectacular mountain scenery is in the southern and western portions of the state. Montrose, Durango and Silverton are impressive, but Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park (all much closer to Denver) have plenty to offer; have fun, but plan well!

This. Your car is in good enough shape to make the trip or it's not. Have roadside service. Have enough food and water to last at least a day and a night. Pack a blanket, a towel, and a roll of toilet paper. I've used those when on a long trip. Matches, a flashlight, and duct tape. You can't go anywhere without those.
