Look, what I'm trying to say is, plucking an isolated Bible verse here and there is disingenuous or perhaps naive, especially when the one being plucked here is taken out of context.

Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed. See what I did there?

If you're against capital punishment on religious grounds, then stand up and proudly say so. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

It truly is amazing that you feel you can dictate someone else's religious beliefs.

"Thou shall not kill" is in every 10 commandments I have ever read. It isn't that difficult. Life in prison keeps that person from the law abiding citizens. Also it has been over 2 decades since PA executed someone and our current governing body isn't going to do it.

Time to move on from this one. No need to beat a dead horse. No need to beat a horse for that matter.

You should read more.

I just returned from Boston where we toured the Old North Church (Anglican/Episcopalian). Up on the altar, big as life, are the Ten Commandments including "Thou Shalt Do No Murder".

Please exercise your religion freely, but don't tell me the Bible says something it clearly does not say.

You've never been to Boston is my guess and my church has been around long before there was a Boston, not that it matters as my religion has progressed to more modern times. Not that any of this matters.

Murder defined by Oxford:

the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.

In the eyes of God killing isn't permitted.

I am surprised I went as far with this as this post, but this is my last on the topic. I simply don't feel killing is right regardless.

If the truth be told, the ancient Israelites cribbed the "10 commandments" from the 42 negative confessions in the "Egyptian Book of the Dead."

Well, the equivalent of that commandment in the Negative Confessions is closer to "Thou shalt not kill" than to "thou shalt not murder," for the confessor states, "I have not slain men and women."

I have no idea what you are talking about. I just said I was in Boston this week, and I quoted a translation of the Sixth Commandment that's on public display in a famous Episcopal church there.

If you're a Quaker, that's your business.

Not everyone is out for blood it seems. Some believe in what is preached by civilized society.

Default Kill/Murder

"...There are a number of assumptions here that are either demonstrably false or (at the least) highly debatable, but among the most significant, perhaps, is the idea that Exodus 20:13 represents a biblical injunction against “killing.” There are two major problems with this assumption."

"1. It would make nonsense of much of the rest of the Old Testament."

"2. The second major objection to citing Exodus 20:13 as a prohibition on killing is that it is based on an incorrect translation of the verse. It should be translated as “Thou shalt not murder” rather than “Thou shalt not kill,” and there is quite a moral distinction between the two terms."
