Or go to your local library and ask the reference employees to help you do a Social Security Death search. Your knowing his place of birth or parents should help with this. There are several people with that name and I don't know enough about him to know even if I found him.
You could also search the funeral homes in the towns you think may be associated with him. Most funeral homes have online obits.
I wonder if he is still alive because the little search I did brought up nothing associated with California.
He's not listed in the social security death index but it usually takes about six months before it will show up and that's if he was even reported. Being 86 yrs old he could be in a nursing home or assisted living.
