You should try the Michelin 3 stars in NY. There's 5 of them. For the tasting menus:
Per Se - $275+ tax, service included
Daniel - $200+
Jean-Georges - $38/course * 5, $190+ (awesome 1/2 price lunch special)
Le Bernadin - $185+
All per person, not including drinks. I can't bring myself to go to Masa at $400+
EDIT. You're completely correct that the whole experience is different than you can get anywhere else. Everything from the service, comfort level, decor, visual, textural, taste, etc is different.
various ways to enjoy these at discounts including sometimes restaurant week and/or restaurant.com coupons on occasion!
I don't think any of the 3 stars do restaurant week any more. I'll have to start checking restaurant.com!
Per Se was on a deal on one of the sites like Groupon recently. gotta keep your eyes opened. It may have been Gilt.com which also does a lot of city-specific deals at high end places.
restaurant.com changes all the time. I've gotten some coupons for Batali restaurants, and then they no longer have them at other times. guess it depends on if the restaurant wants to do something to create any more buzz. lol
Simple enough question. I'm wondering what the most you've spent on dinner per person. Even if you didn't pay for it, what did the total come out to?
Mine was $120 for 2 people in Chicago a couple of years ago. The girl I took there was a boozehound. She ordered 4-5 margaritas that evening...before we went to a bar and ordered some more
The most that I've spent is something like $120 on a single dinner for my wife and I. Most recently, we did this six months ago. I also did it when I proposed a couple of years ago. Each time it was for a great steak and we each had a couple of drinks.
My neighbor was VP of Food and Bev for a high-end hotel in Dallas. He took us to their "white truffle" celebration - a 5-course meal with a different wine serving for each course. It was $175pp plus the cost of the really old brandy he served us. We would never have spent so much, and really, I could now go the rest of my life without eating more truffle.
We have spent about $250 on dinner and wine for two at a fancy steakhouse. It was a gift certificate so not sure if that counts either. Apparently, my (different) neighbor was really happy my hubby cut down his dead bartlett pear tree in the front yard rather than having to pay $1000 or more for a removal company to take it out.
Ah, I remember it well, at Disney World, the Grand Floridian, we had lobster, Kobe beef, wine, dessert was a chocolate souffle...it was absolutely the most wonderful meal of my life. And seemed to last forever...a true dream...I think that the bill was about $500.00 for two. Yes, it was paid for, by my husband's golf tournament...which is why we had such a great meal.
A lot. That we paid for probably $300 for two of us at Le Bernadin (mentioned earlier) in NYC. Of course my husband asked me to marry him that night so I'm thinking its ok We still go out and spend a $100 or so on a nice dinner for our anniversary every year.
That I didn't pay for...probably well into the thousands, a particular night at The Homestead in Virginia with my inlaws probably takes the cake. Or my boss took us out once in NYC to La Grenouille, best food ever. Anyway, in my life I have had some pricey (and yummy meals).
