I know quite a few. Almost anyone in Vegas who HAS to sell for any reason is forced to walk away because they don't have 200K to bring to closing.

florida obviously.

my mom's neighbors-but they hadn't paid their mortgage in over 2 years before they eventually left.

my neighbors didn't lose their house, but they took out a whopping large loan on their house and now neither of them work anymore. i guess that was how you were supposed to play the game-who knew?

This is quite astounding. Did you actually make a count, or does it just seem like a whole bunch to you? I live in the Los Angeles area and know quite a few people, of whom none that I know of has lost their house. Certainly I will concede that you probably know more people than I do. However, it still seems astounding. Is there a pattern of reasons? Does job loss predominate? I would be very curious to have you flesh out your answer a little more for us.

I actually was being conservative on the 50 count.
Over the last 4 yrs. our local newspaper has had anywhere from 15-50 foreclosure notices in the paper each week, and i know 20% of them. While 95% are not redeemed.

Out of 30 subcontractors 80% have lost their homes and lively hoods.
Past employees, investment associates, development teams, and ancillary support... ie. Real estate agents, fellow developer builders, suppliers, laborers, friends and family....
oh! and restaurants... over a dozen have folded in my town in the last two yrs.

My past lively hood was in Land investment, development, commercial and residential construction.

I'm a pretty friendly person, i know thousands of people. Really well, not just casually.

none that I personally knew in Virginia. But looking at all the homes on my road that were sold over the past three years, only one was bank owned.

I thought it would be interesting to see how other parts of the country are faring. How many people do you know, and what part of the country are you in.
I don't know of anyone who's lost "there" home. But I do know of people who've lost their homes.

In fact i know of 2 families who lost their homes. Both families live over there, across the street.

I know a few. Most were on the path towards towards financial oblivion long before the recession started.

More than a few back in Michigan. The ironic thing was, the people who had average paying jobs fared better. The ones with the high paying jobs who were living high on the hog... Yea, I was helping to clean out their homes once the bills couldn't be paid.

I know noone that has lost their home. Everyone I know is very "responsible" in their financial decisions. I actually know 1 person who bought 2 more homes.

One person I know almost lost their home due to medical costs, but finally got it figured out with her lender (she was behind 2 payments and wouldnt work with her on catching up)
