Im getting back $1,340. Its going towards my student loans mostly, and then paying off my savings account for emergency money that I had to dip into.

I got $700 back and stuck it in savings. Then the next week I decided I wanted to buy a new bicycle. So there went my tax refund money. Then the next day I got a $1000 yearly performance bonus at work. Sweet.

Hmm, fourteen bucks from the feds and four bucks from the state. I think I'll put it toward paying my accountant. (Actually, the first time I've gotten this close to even, which I thought was the goal).

The $400 return weare getting from the state is going towards the $1000 we owe the federal. So we get a big fat NOTHING 2 years in a row!

Got back abt $1250, already put it towards my highest student loan at 5%. Brings that one down to abt $3200, which I am determined to pay off by June Still have many other student loans & a car loan (9 others in total) but one at a time!

I have my emergency savings & I'm contributing 6% to my retirement, otherwise those would be first on my list. Housing fund is waiting until I pay off this loan + car loan.

Default Why this idea that we have to spend money just because we receive it?

I don't know if you're boring, but putting your tax refund into savings proves only that you are mature and sensible, which is not the same as boring. Congrats to you and to other posters in this thread who do not feel like they have to spend money just because they receive it.

However, I am not an old stick in the mud, and I am not saying it's wrong per se to spend one's tax refund. One poster said he and his wife had not had a vacation for three years - what a great use of their tax refund and I hope they enjoy their vacation.
