Me too! $400 that could've been in my pocket every month.
OTOH: If you aren't a saver, it does serve as forced short term savings. My wife has a friend like this. She just can't wait for her refund every year; and delights in planning how she will spend it in advance.
nah, i'm a saver. i just don't need the $$$ fortunately every month so it's something to look forward to.
How do people wind up owing? I never understood that - are you guys rich? lol
I'm getting about $3000 federal - going towards bills, I just had to max my credit cards to pay for my mothers funeral.
Definitely not rich. We make a conbined salary of $67k. He claims 0 and I claim 1 as we have forever and they did not take enough taxes out. Same thing happened the year prior but it wasnt as much. We were pretty pissed.
I've got a weird tax situation this year so I think it's going to be around 20k. That'll be used to fund my Roth for 2012 and taking out about 40% of my remaining student loan balance.
We got just over $7500 back, due in part to my husband switching jobs and winding up with an over withdrawal of his FICA. We're using about half to start up a 529 for the baby we're expecting later this year, the rest is going into savings.
I intentionally don't get much back; I'd rather get it weekly then have the IRS hold it without interest for a year. We'll use our federal refund to pay our small state tax bill and buy tires for the van.
Just how I prefer it. I don't feel guilty giving either a interest free loan. They both need it. I like the fact every year I get a little "bonus" instead of nothing or paying. I use the money to buy something like tires, pay down a big debt, or a present for ourselves like an upgrade in our home/cars, little vacation.
It's not that much money, but its enough to be substantial enough to enjoy.
