we are the same way. It's just personality and background, my wife feels comfortable at any amount of money we have. however, I am the greedy one.

I am in a pretty big hole but at least have a plan to get out. Every year I will feel a little more comfortable... My steps are:

1. Pay off car - this month
2. $1000 in savings - end of this year
3. Pay off 30K credit card - 1/2 years
4. Pay off 401k loans - 2-3 years
5. Pay off alimony - 3 years

Then...
Pay off house
Max out 401k and HSA
Increase cash reserves

More than $5k in the bank(preferably more than $20k), a secure job that I love doing, and no crippling bills.


If I can't get that then I'm not comfortable anywhere period.
