For me, with 3 small kids, being mortgage free means peace of mind. That said, by choice, I have a loan on my high end car because...well....free money. So I dont think the mentality of all debt is bad is appropriate.

Yeah, depends whether you're talking about personal or business too, since most successful business owners have large debt (especially on real estate). It reminds me of that funny saying, something like, "If you owe the bank $1,000, that's your problem. If you owe the bank a million dollars, that's the bank's problem!"

you could have no debt but still live paycheck to paycheck and struggle. you could have tons of debt and still be wealthy and be able to afford all your needs and wants. this lady's post touting being debt free says absolutely nothing. it just seems to imply an irrational fear of debt.

Yup. We have a seven-figure mortgage, but also have assets worth more than 3x that mortgage.

What have we been doing with our money instead of paying off the sub-4% mortgage? Investing.

To be more accurate your advice should be:

"Marry and stay married to a lawyer with his own firm"

and maybe include:

"Watch your spending while being married to a lawyer with his own firm".

No we are not scared of debt, just been there and done that before and yes it's stressful way to live, owning beyond your means and having to work to keep things you don't really own! By becoming debt free we have made more money and enjoy a life of traveling etc! It took 4 years to get out debt, wasn't easy at first, since we live in a world of want and gratification yesterday! But hey we did it, yes we own everything out right, money not issues or working a job we might hate to keep things we don't own! I should also add, we owned our business as well, sold it six years ago and retired! Life is short was meant to enjoy, and that's what we are doing! ~~~ I'm just sharing what we've done...Basically live the life you want, there no right way or wrong way, just yours! Peace Out! ~~~
