Oh, yeah. They do.
Not everyone has an easy access to bank deposit box, not to mention that those boxes are not so safe at all...

Anyway, back to the question, we keep less than $100 around, not really hidden well. I was decluttering once and found $250 in a shoe box that was open, it was between the lid and the bottom of the box. Have no idea when I stashed it there.

Who goes through a fast food place and uses a credit card? That's usually where my cash gets spent, DH's too.
I do. I do not spend cash on anything. In addition to keeping $200 in the house, I am going to keep $20 bucks in my wallet at all times. Oh I forget, I used to use cash at the chinese restaurant. I stopped going.

That is a nice amount of cash. Is that your petty account stash or do you have an account for that?

Folks who want to track spending to a high degree, and/or maximize reward points, and/or prefer to not lose dollars through busting them into coins which always seem to just get sent out into the nether regions of the universe, at least at my house.

Same here. The real question is who goes to a fast food place and uses cash?

So, since you don't want to answer the question as asked, how about this one:

Do you consider barter transactions a source of income?
This thread is not about taxes. It is about whether or not people keep cash in their house. Respectfully, please drop it.

I have decided to increase my cash stash to $500. I am going to carry $40 in my wallet. That is good enough.

I had a fair share of unexpected expenses where access to plastic was limited or not desired. This is my sort of emergency money I used and replaced several times already. I also travel some, sometimes is that a last minute decision. For me is that amount I actually need, even being very frugal.

Emergency money should reflect ones lifestyle and needs. Some people need more, some less.

I am not sure what amount is sufficient. I rarely spend money during the work week. Better safe than sorry.
