so we went to la republica dominicana recently from newark. it seems that they move the united club and replaced it with a united polaris club. so we go in and are told only flights to specific places can enter the united polaris club (place looked very nice and empty). the regular club has moved. it was very far away from our gate. ill call chase to see if they will refund me some of the annual fee.

i can get united club access with another card. so im basically keeping it for the premier access and free luggage. there is also a points redemption benefit which i actually did use once. im not sure if i could get the premier access any other way unless i pay for it per flight.

Priority Pass works well for us as well. I particularly appreciate the number of lounges in foreign countries.

Its complimentary with the acquisition of a Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. Of course, the card costs $450 a year, but $300 is refunded as a credit for travel related expenses.

so my wife took a little trip with her mother and the kids to disney. i picked them up from newark airport, united's terminal yesterday. i was a big early so i spent some time looking at the regular ticketing area and the regular security line. it was a zoo. i dont want to travel like a poor person going to regular ticketing and security. also, the luggage took a long time to come out which may or may not been better if she had premier access (couldnt get it without me going).

so im going to keep the united club card unless i can figure out another way to get premier access (not paying per flight because thats very expensive)

Not true. United or Star Alliance partner airline. I have used club passes often while flying with other airlines. Twice in the past year flying EVA and Turkish. Yes, the club desk checks boarding passes. Last time she started to say something then said "oh, they're Star, never mind". And it can be on a different calendar day if within 12 hours of departure. One of the times I got there at 9pm Friday for a 12:30am Saturday departure.

so i am planning an upcoming trip to aruba and i ran my flight costs 3 ways (same flights, same level).

United MileagePlus Points: 140,000 points + $340.20

Cash: $1,398.20

UR Points with Reserve Card: 93,212 points

its so hard to squeeze a penny per point out of United, this valuation is a joke. clearly the winner is the UR points.
