I'm thinking of getting this card as when we fly long (3+ hrs) we do United First Class. I'm confused on the airport club passes though. Are they a one time deal when you sign up or do they get renewed every year?? It's good for cardholder and a guest correct? Any pros and cons to this card? TIA

They give you a few single use passes with the Explorer, but the one that is 400+ per year is unlimited use.

as long as i have the card, i get my annual united club membership renewed. this allows me to take my wife and two kids to the united club whenever we fly out of an airport with a united club. it is only for the primary cardholder though so my wife cant use it without me.

if you get the explorer card with the lower annual fee you get a few one time passes.

yeah, i like having it. we really enjoy hanging out in the club before flights. i also get 4 free pieces of luggage and premier check in/security lines. it also "helped" me book a flight with points for the same day that i dont think i would have been able to without the card (or at least there would have been more fees).

its a luxury card, not needed and doesnt really save money.

The United website says it’s club access, premier access and two check bags

Do you have to fly on United the day you access the lounge?

Edit: it looks like you can fly any airline to use the lounge that day

Oh I know not totally needed but if we are going to start flying more in FC I'd figure it would be a good card to have. I already have CSP

What does flying first class have to do with? Actually that reduces the value of the card as you should get two bags free, premier access and priority boarding. How many times a year are you flying?
