New job.....
So, it looks like my balance is 81 dollars less than my contributions....yet, my performance YTD is +4%

lol how's that possible? what am i missing?

Are you sure it's showing YTD or maybe the rate of return from this time last year to today, like a 12 month rate of return? One of my non-Fidelity accounts shows that number.

hmm....i think it's YTD cause i started this job in April 2018.....

It's a personal rate of return, meaning that the older money in there (which has grown) has more significant impact than the more recent money (which had a sharper loss). It can lead to confusion but I don't think you can change this in your Fidelity account. In the end it's just your $$ amount you worry about.

oh yeah, i'm not worried about it, as you're right....the $$ matters most.....it's just a weird way to present the data, and definitely confusing.

Fidelity time weights the money .there is a detailed explanation on their website as to how personal rate of return is calculated
