I read the USPS bulletin below and am aware that packages over 13oz that use all stamps must be given to a clerk at a retail service counter. However, in the second paragraph it mentions online postage applications. Is it possible to partially pay some postage (the part you haven't payed in stamps affixed on a package) in order to generate a tracking number so you can give it to your postal carrier instead of having to make a trip to the post office?

Reason behind the 13 ounce rule is for security. Stamps alone do not provide any sort of traceable information regarding the addressee.

My reading and understanding of above is that if you affix a label with barcode/tracking *and* stamps it should be ok.

Best thing to do is call your local USPS office and ask.

Do your label online and pay for the entire amount, don't mix in stamps and online postage, that doesn't make sense.

We've been giving USPS packages to our home and work postal carriers for many, many years, always with an online generated prepaid label that includes tracking numbers.

Makes sense to mix stamps and online postage if possible when one has purchased for stamps 40% to 50% of FV.

But that's not a payment option, you pay for the full label, there's no option to pay for a partial label.

Interesting. I've been giving prepaid label packaged to my carrier for years. Guess I should stop.

I have put many packages larger than 13 oz in the USPS drop box after hours. The box next to the 24-hour kiosk, not the blue outside boxes.
