If your state charges income tax you are better off with T bills, you don't pay state tax but you will with CDs.

Treasury Direct. No fees, $100 dollar increments, can auto-roll for 2 years. I have 3 months of 90 day Bills so money gets back to our savings acct. each month. You can stop auto-roll any time. I don't do auto-roll. I promised DW if something happened to me her money would all be back in 3 months.

I don't pay state income tax on anything.

Wish that was true, but... 50% of my $50k property tax (in 3 income tax free states) goes to state schools.
