My bank take the money out right away out of my available balance even if I run it as credit. I use checks to pay rent.To much of a pain in the ass to run to the ATM machine or buy a money order.
I actually only experienced one company that deduct the money out
of my account the same day I write it. That' s "Old Navy". I float a check for maybe 1-2 days if I run short of money and have to buy some groceries. The grocery store I go to take around 5- 7 days to "cash" their check.
But most of the time I use my debit card.

Debit in the grocery store. I haven't seen anyone using checks in awhile in the grocery store. That remind me of the commerical on t.v. with the lady that whole up the line at the register writing a check when everybody else is using debt cards. It slow the flow down.
