As a customer, I've never had a problem that wasn't resolved with a phone call. The broad reach they had which made them "too big to fail" was one of the reasons why I did business with them in the first place.. talk about your unintended consequences! If nothing else, this crisis has taught me not to keep all my eggs in one basket.
I've been very happy with Citibank for my personal checking. I have a local bank (Suntrust) for easier deposit of actual cash and paper checks, but Citibank has much better online bill pay. One of the best aspects of banking with them is that they don't charge ATM withdrawal fees in locations where they don't maintain branches or ATMs, and they will refund the other bank's ATM withdrawal fees (up to 4 per month).
The only problem I've had is that my Citi ATM card is significantly flimsier than my other credit cards and has cracked twice (2 cards) simply sitting in my wallet. They were quick and easy to replace, though.
I've been with Citibank for a couple of years. My only complaint would be that they don't seem to have many branches. I used to live near one. However, since I moved over a year ago, I've been to an actual Citibank maybe 3 times. Other than that, I have no problems with them. They don't charge me a fee and I LOVE online banking with them. Bill paying takes 2 minutes a month. Because there are so few branches where I live, I opened op a checking account with a bank very close to my home. I go there to get cash. So, to make a long story short, I like Citibank.
I have used Citibank for the last 10 years with no problems. Much much better than Chase.
