Hi, my name is Marilyn. I am 43 years old. When I was in my early 20's I knew my family had a lot of big money. I would sit and day dream, ohh when I get my millions Im gonna buy this buy that. Fast foward to age 43, my Mother just past away along slow painful death of cancer. I have received one half of the estate. Its alot of money coupled with what I have invested. My father is old and when he goes I am basically a rich loaded orphan. Here is the point,

Now that I am close to what I dreamed in my early 20's MONEY cant buy anything I want. Its such a kick in the butt. I want my Father to be happy and get on with life without my mother. I want my mother to be back and alive, I want close strong freindships, I want good health, I want bigger stronger muscles. MONEY cant buy a damn thing I want now. If I have know all this in my early 20's I would have done things alot different. Money is not everything. To be honest, I would give it all away if I could make my Dad happy alone with out Mom. Things really do change when you get older. You cant hold money, you cant talk to money, you cant love money, money cant buy health, love, freindship or your family back. Marilyn

Well, it might sound a little chilly, but you would have lost your parents when you did whether or not they had money. Money could buy them the best care or hospice in their last months. No money couldn't.
It's not like you made a deal with the devil that you'd get the money if they died and somehow made them die sooner.
True, it's somewhat unattractive to look forward to someone's death because there's something in it for you. But you had no tradeoffs available.
If you're feeling bad about looking forward to the money, you can always support a charitable organization or set up a scholarship or something with your parents' name on it to honor their memory.

thank you for your ideas and comments. I guess what I was trying to say is that money does not buy happiness. I thought it would solve all my problems and make me happy. I thought money would comfort me and help me. Its done nothing, its indifferent. I am still the same with it or without it. Nothing magical happened. In fact as I have gotton older I am less likely to spend it and just sit there and stew on it. I used to have big plans for all this money and big big dreams of how and what I would buy and blow it on. ANd now that I finally have it, everything changed and those dreams and plans are not the same as they were when I was young. I cant think of one damn thing that money can buy me that I want. Its just ironic.

I really appreciate your comments and ideas of charity. Thanks for answering I mean that too!! Marilyn

good post on money.
it was not given to me, i had to go thru alot to get it.
here is what i learned
when you have slain the dragon
the village does not in fact turn out to cheer
the beautiful princess does not in fact fall in love with you.
i buy alota what you say but not all.
i started out very poor no rich daddy.
here is what i learned
money does not buy happyness
but it makes 80% of your problems vaporize.
when you got money everybody wants to show you how to be happy

There is another thread on "can money buy happiness" here in this forum.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/busin...happiness.html

Now we all know that money isn't a be-all, end-all, but I stick my opinion as posted in the other thread that it can grease the skids of happiness, and I would rather have money than not have money. Sure, it can't bring back dead relatives or change the course of natural disasters, but it can provide comfort and enable you to do more than without it. The rest is up to you.

Miserable rich people will be unhappy, and some happy people can find the good side of poverty. It's still up to the person. Personally, I'd rather be unhappy with money than unhappy without it.

very interesting. I also respect that you worked hard for it. I have worked too but never enough to make what my father earned. I like some of your thoughts and I think they are pretty funny and true. Thanks for the poetry.

how did you find the drive to make money? How did you do it? May I ask what did you do? How do you keep making it? Your obviously a go getter too!!! I have alot of drive for the things I like. I love weight lifting, and I am a women so its harder for me. I wish I could put that drive into what you did. You sound GREAT and smart.

When I went from the red to the black, house paid off, cars paid off, credit cards paid off, life changed.
For most of my life I had lived paycheck to paycheck with half of it going to interest. I don't have a lot of income but without all of that interest I don't need it.
