I dread the day that my cat dies. I've had him for 16 1/2 years now.

Going back to my earlier post that it depends on the situation, more proof.

We came to the conclusion tonight that it is time to let Dervish go. She is an old bun and has had a good life. I cuddled her for a long time and she was happy for it but she is listless and can't even move properly anymore. But making the decision has been horrible. We lost our other rabbit just two months ago, and she simply hasn't been able to get over it, it seems. We have tried what we can but at this point she is ready to go and it would be cruel for us to keep her longer for our own selfish reasons. She has been with me through hurricanes, several jobs and several homes. BEsides the obvious pets are those constants that help us with life's challenges and transitions. And just watching the remarkable decline almost from the moment our other bun passed.... that was a deep bond. It is time for her to join him over the rainbow bridge.

So tonight I did cry quite a lot having t come to this conclusion and remembering not just the times with her but the times with my other bun so recently passed for whom I did not have to make the decision. I'll feel much better when it's all done but right now I think i need to change my vote to bawled my eyes out, because that's definitely what I did earlier tonight and will probably do tomorrow at the vet.

Some have people in their lives that are worth crying over, others, not so much.

When my Friskie died I think I actually stopped breathing.

It was a terrible day. I walked out of the vets office and literally could not stand up any more. I was hearing my self cry - these unhuman like sounds and just trying to suck in air. I think for a moment my entire body just stopped in grief.

I barely got out of bed for two days until his little funeral at the pet cemetery. I just wanted to crawl into that grave with him.

That cat meant more to me than most my family.

I get that. Family can hurt you, cuttingly and sometimes unwittingly. There is none of that with our little friends.
When Ceasar had to go I was fearful that I could not drive home. With Zeus, we took a cab.
You express yourself so beautifully. I agree that there is a greater feeling of unnatural separation with our pets, sometimes, than there is with family.

The only one I bawled over was a white cat named Charmin who was beaten to death by neighborhood kids. Unfortunately, the only witness would not testify against them because I'm white and he said he would not testify for a white person against black kids. (I only know what happened to one of them and last I heard he was in jail for a long time on drug and firearms charges)

I've always shed heartfelt tears over the loss of a pet. The first few losses left me struggling to bond with new pets. I guess I see them as passing through my life now. It's sad when they go but I know I only get them for a little while. I guess I'm better prepared now.

I put my cat Harls down yesterday. I broke down a couple of times before he was euthanized and as we were leaving. I'm still teary but I can't say I've bawled. He was old and sick and it was his time.

I wish, if I got old and ill, that someone would put me out of my misery.
I am so sorry for your loss, Ivory.

Yeah, there's a certain element in the black community that thinks that way. It's unfortunate because if everyone thought that way our society would deteriorate into a really low and primitive level. Maybe that person would not testify for fear of repercussions from the community and not because he would stick up for black thugs against innocent whites and their companion animals.

That might be a good thread in Politics and Controversies, 'How were you discriminated against?"

I've already informed my kids that if I live to be 80, I'm going to start experimenting with recreational drugs. If I die of an overdose, at least I'll die happy, lol. Seriously, once you're old enough, you should be able to get anything you want. And if you decide it's your time, you should be able to gather your family around and be euthanized. The part of life I dread is when I'm so old I'm just waiting around to die. I'm gonna be doing some good drugs then....

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it was because he didn't like white people. Which I found interesting because both he and his wife were half white/half black. I've never understood people like this. I know it's common though. I once witnessed an accident between a white businessman in a Mercedes and a group of black teens in a car. The businessman caused the accident. After I gave my statement to the police and they talked to the driver, he came over to thank me. He expected me to lie for the white guy. He was, genuinely, shocked I didn't. Heck, the idiot almost hit me half a mile before he plowed through that intersection and got hit by them. I saw him coming, they couldn't because a semi blocked their view.

That's just horrible. You'd think cops would worry about their reputation and try to be an example of good police work rather than acting like a gang. I wonder why that guy told you that he witnessed everything if he did not like you?

I've had some bad experiences with a couple of different races that are disturbing.

You poor soul, you must be haunted by the thought of what your innocent little cat went through. Maybe this is what that guy intended.

I asked him if he saw anything because it happened in front of his house. I knew who did it because they were bragging. The guy said he saw them (didn't try to stop them either ) but that he would tell the police he saw nothing because he wasn't going to testify for a white woman.

I think the cat was just in the wrong place at the wrong time for a gang of thugs to have some fun. I don't think I or the cat were targeted.

I bawled over his death. All the if onlys...if only I'd gone out to find him before I went to bed....if he'd been an indoor cat...
