I know some pet owners who actually become angry if you say you feed your dogs chicken jerky from China. They claim they are poisonous and kill dogs because of all the news lately. But in my experience, none of my dogs have ever gotten sick from them..... and I've been buying them for over 10 years. Plus no link has ever been established to prove that they are harmful to dogs as it is the most tested and scrutinized pet snack in history.
So do you feel comfortable feeding it to your dogs or did you stop buying it completely?
Amazon currently has the 'Kingdom Pets Chicken Jerky 48oz' on sale for $15.69 if anyone is interested.
Many brands recently issued voluntary recalls because of the concern over deaths of cats and dogs possibly related to the jerky. It's not a formal recall, but there's enough concern to warrant the FDA doing further investigation and for the companies to issue the recalls of their own volition.
Yeah, chances are, your dog will be fine and you might not run into anyone whose dog got sick from it, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.
I personally make my dog's jerky myself in a dehydrator, but that's mostly just because it's a good deal cheaper!
Same here. I purchase very little made in China but never food. Our 'cookies' are mostly raw broccoli, their favorite, vegetables, fruit and milk bones. (No onions, grapes or other toxic foods.)
This is not about the Chinese people, it is about their quality control over any food product in their country. When there was the problem with them adding melamine to pet foods, they were doing it to the products in their country too. For all we know, that chicken jerky is made from poultry that die from bird flu. Don't forget that they also sold us toys for our children that had high levels of lead.
I make my own chicken jerky. I use boneless chicken breasts, pop them in the freezer, on a cookie sheet, for about 30 minutes, or as long as needed for them to get firm, but not frozen. This stiffens the meat and allows for very thin slicing. The dogs got used to me making them chicken jerky and would anticipate them coming out of the dehydrator.
