CHALFORD HILL, England, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A British lobbying group has criticized a fire department for spending six hours on the rescue of a pet duck trapped in a pond's overflow pipe.

Chris and Karen Hutchens said a five-man team of Gloucestershire firefighters arrived at their Chalford Hill, England, home just before 9:30 a.m. and dug a trench to free their duck, Brownie, from the pipe, The Sun reported Monday.

Well I certainly commend them for this!! No emergency calls came in so it's pretty sad this group has a problem with it; pretty cold-hearted IMO. Great job they did!!

I suppose they should've stayed back at the station house, napping on their strato-loungers, watching tv, and baking brownies. Firefighters get paid either way - whether they're out on a call or hanging around the fire house playing cards.

It is pretty said that this group is so stupid they feel the need to complain about a simple act of kindness. Knuckleheads.

i'm very sure that had an emergency call come in, the firefighters would have been off in a flash.....

i swear..... some people need to just get a life and not constantly be looking for something to complain about or criticize........

Its probably good training. What if it had been a kid and they didn't know what to do?

The fact that they would do this shows a sensitivity and awareness of the value of all life, even if it's just a duck.

I wish this attitude could be shared with all of our public officials.

Huge hugs to every freaking one of you!!! You all stated my exact thoughts.

Man, after a day of seeing so many pets lost in shelters, the helpless feeling, seeing all of you defend them did me some good. Strengthens my faith in human kind. Thanks for being so great guys!
