I live in Mt Airy and have a job opportunity in Kennett Square so I’m trying to get an idea about the commute. Google Maps suggests 2 ways to go, one straight down City Line Ave (Rt 1) all the way to KS and the other is the Turnpike to Blue Route to Rt 1. Both are estimated to take about an hour……so, does anyone in the know (or have an opinion) about the 1 hour estimation, taking traffic, etc into play? I don’t plan to move, so the commute is a make-it-or-break-it thing for this job. Too much over an hour and I don’t think I’d take the job.

By the way, I will be running a test run during the morning rush next week, but I wanted to get opinions first.

On a daily basis, I'd say more hellish than anything else. The stretch down Route 1 has a ton of lights and traffic.

I wouldn't take Route 1 straight down. That would be so annoying to me, too much stop and go and City Line can get be slower than it ought to be (still unclear why).

You shouldn't have to get on the Turnpike, you should be able to get onto the Blue Route directly if that helps at all. I'd probably take the Blue Route regularly and use Rt 1 as an alternate route when traffic problems came up.

Leisurely is just not possible, there's barely a commute in this area that is. But its doable, even if not ideal. If its a good job, go for it. During your test drive, you can take one way down and one way back to get an idea for both, just pay attention to the traffic on the other side to get an idea of that as well.

Actually getting to the Blue Route is quicker by 309 and the turnpike than it is directly to the Blue Route by way of Lafayette Hill/Plymouth Meeting, depending on traffic of course.

Thanks for the input....you are reinforcing what I probaby already know. But the job may be promising enough to trade in my cushy train ride into Center City for morning and afternoon drive battles to Kennett Square. I guess I'd have to trade-up my seldom used jalopy with 150k miles....

Thanks again.

Very true, depending on where you are in Mount Airy, that could definitely be faster.

Be openminded when you take your test drive, if you like the job, just go for it, it'll all work out. Definitely like the idea of a new car though.
