On Friday I will be driving on from AC to Scranton and use the Schuykill and Northeast extension. What kind of traffic should I be looking at? And if I was to get through Philly by 3:30 would traffic be bad?

I commute a couple of days a week along 80 to Manhattan, so I know traffic can get bad, just need to know what I am in for.

Thanks.

Yeah, traffic can start getting bad by 3 or 3:30, especially on a Friday. You might want to try to get into Philly by 2'ish.

I agree with Avalon08. I travel from NJ to Valley Forge (where 76 and Northeast Extention meet) and it can be VERY rough. There are an awful lot of highways that converge in a very short span of road which makes for a nice 5 mph crawl. However, if you're planning to get on the NE Extention by 3:30, it really shouldn't be that bad (especially compared to Manhattan traffic) and once you're past the Mid-County exchange and the construction zone, things should ease up considerably.

476 Northeast Extension and 476 Blue Route are two different stories. Once you get past Plymouth Meeting on the Northeast Extension you are fine. It's a fast, straight road.

If you were going on the Blue Route on Friday afternoon, good luck.

I just took a look at the route using Google's historic traffic information. 76 westbound between 30th Street Station & Conshohocken goes from green & yellow to yellow & red between 3 and 3:15pm on Fridays.

Your more problematic point will be between New Jersey and 30th Street Station...

There's a big stretch of red appearing between 2:30 and 2:45pm on 76 between the Walt Whitman and 30th St. . It would probably be better for you to take the Ben Franklin then go 676 to 76. That route is yellow with red only to take the exit onto 76 from 1:45pm onward.

Good luck!
