...

I'm living in Essington.

What taxes do I have to be concerned about as an employee? The state income tax and the Philadelphia city tax? Is that it?

Does the Business Privilege tax apply if I make property investments outside of Philadelphia, but I LIVE in Philadelphia? Also, are there local taxes to things like capital gains from stock investments? Thanks!

I also read on this forum that Essington isn't considered a part of Philadelphia city? Is that true? What does that mean about its taxes?

Essington isn't just not considered part of Philadelphia. It isn't!

It's part of Delaware county. If you work in Philadelphia, you will still have to pay the wage tax as a Philadelphia worker. However if you do not work in Philly, you will not pay the tax as you are neither a Philly employee nor a philly resident. Not sure if there are any local municipality taxes in essington. I'd assume no.

Yes, Tinicum Twp does have a wage tax. You also have to pay property taxes to fund the local school district as well.

You should get the wage tax forms sent to you from the township every year, if you don't get it just head on up to the municipal building on Gov. Printz Blvd and talk to someone up there.
