My husband and I relocated from Arlington, VA to Philadelphia for work and are looking for suggestions on family friendly areas to buy a home with easy commutes to the Navy Yard. We have been looking on-line at Media, Swarthmore and Drexel Hill. We are in both professionals in our late thirties and hoping to start a family. We prefer a single family home with a yard and love a walking town. any suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend Media,Nether Providence and Swarthmore but property taxes can be prohibitive, so keep a watchful eye there.

If you want to go into New Jersey (quick trip over the Walt Whitman Bridge) look at Collingswood, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, Westmont (Haddon Township); I would put all of these into the walkable category with town centers.

Media!
Look just outside the borough in Upper Providence Twp for a little more house for your money. Media is very walkable, very family friendly. We loved living there!
The commute to the Navy Yard is not bad at all, I did it for a while before having kids.
