Philly has a very well organized and developed LGBT Community. The very first LGBT Rights demonstrations took place here in front of Independence Hall from 1965 through 1969.
One of the more popular women's bars is called Sister's on Chancellor Street in "The Gayborhood."
I would suggest you first head for the LGBT Community Center - called The William Way Community Center - on Spruce Street near the Kimmel Center. The people there will tell you about the different women's groups and activities that take place there. There is also a women's bulletin board in one of the hallways. You can also pick up a copy of
PGN - the Philadelphia Gay News. Nearby you'll want to visit
Giovanni's Room , the oldest LGBT book and gift shop in the US.
