Not long ago in another thread, we were discussing the impact of Amtrak's high-speed train proposal would have on Philadelphia. Here's a new article about it in today's Inquirer.

There is some worldwide High Speed Rail Conference happening in Philadelphia, makes me wonder if this actually has the legs to happen.

If they were to use Market East as the HSR Rail Station in Philadelphia, the first thing that needs to be addressed are the Urine Soaked entrances at 11th and Filbert. There are countless times that I have heard tourists go through those doors and just start bellyaching at the smell.

The article was clear that ME would be redone. And that's the last thing anyway. The first thing is the cost of a new ROW, much of it tunnels, through dense, urban areas.

I know this, I was just addressing Market East as a Station. The Septa cops would need to step their game up in keeping the homeless from lounging and using the entrances as bathrooms.

It would still be used for the slower Northeast Regional type services along the NEC.

This will bring a ton of business and residents to Philly in my opinion who are seeking a cheaper alternative to New York.
