Wondering if either of these places is a good place to relocate with our family. How are the schools (middle and highschools) in that area. Or maybe are there areas surrounding those that might be a better choice. Help!

I'd lean towards Elkins Park. The city of Norristown itself does not have a positive reputation in general, although surrounding towns are fine. Depending on where you live in Elkins Park, you will be in either Abington or Cheltenham townships. Both school districts have good reputations. I am a product of Abington schools and I made out alright. Jenkintown is tucked between the two towns and has smaller class sizes. Some on this forum may also suggest Upper Dublin as well.

That area of Montgomery County is basically older bedroom communities. The part of Cheltenham that borders Philly can be a bit troublesome at times but Elkins Park is far from that. You and your family should feel very comfortable.

Norristown the city and its schools are CRAP. Check schoolmatters.com or schooldigger.com. If you moved to West Norriton (shudder), East Norriton, Jeffersonvile, etc. I would recommend you put your kids in private school...Elkins Park has got to be better by default...
